The First HR Software AI Leaderboard Has a Six-Citation Gap Between Rank 1 and Rank 10
HR & Talent's first published buyer-choice leaderboard is mature enough to cite and too young to treat as a category verdict. Pin.com leads the how-buyers-choose shape with 14 of 101 observed runs; Lever.co holds rank 10 with 8. Seven domains sit at 8 or 9 cited runs, and the first editorial publication is rank 11 with the same cited-run count as rank 10.
The first HR software buyer-choice leaderboard is live. That is the good news. The measurement is now citable.
The bad news is what a brand team will be tempted to do next: read the rank order like it is a stable market map. It is not. In the HR & Talent how_choose segment, Pin.com is rank 1 with 14 citations in 101 observed answer runs. Lever is rank 10 with 8. The distance from first to tenth is six answers.
That is not a criticism of the leaderboard. It is the correct reading of a newly mature segment. It tells an operator where the engines are pointing today, which source roles are present, and how thin the top-ten line still is.
The measurement
The source is the public Machine Relations Index, methodology mri_score_v2.0, release mri_score_v2.0+2026-09-21+d73e239e7c5b. The public JSON artifact was generated on 2026-09-21 and covers 2026-05-10 through 2026-09-21.

This article reads one segment: HR & Talent paired with the how_choose question shape. It does not use the HR news segment as a proxy for buyer decisions, and it does not promote the other HR buyer shapes. Five of them are still collecting: best tools, is it worth it, problem-first research, top lists and comparisons.
Rank 1 is six answers ahead of rank 10
The top ten is a useful list. It is not a moat.

The cutoff is thinner than the table looks. Seven domains sit at either 8 or 9 cited runs: reddit.com, selenios.com, umantis.com, ustechautomations.com, clearcompany.com, cvviz.com, gem.com and lever.co. Three more domains immediately below the top ten also sit at 8 cited runs: People Managing People, Pinpoint and Yena.
That means the first editorial publication in the segment is not far away from the leaderboard. It is rank 11 with the same cited-run count as rank 10. A top-ten summary that says "no editorial publication appears" is true. A strategy that treats that as a hard category boundary is not.
The source-role read is stronger than the rank-order read
The top-ten source-role split is more stable than the exact order:

That is the operational signal. The engines are not building the HR buyer shortlist from trade press. They are pulling from company sites, work platforms, communities and a long tail the classifier does not yet reduce to a clean media category.
But this is also where the measurement should slow the reader down. "Other observed source" is not a strategy. It is a current classification boundary. Some of those domains may be products, agencies, job-market infrastructure, regional software pages or thin observed surfaces. Treating the bucket as a channel would be the same mistake as treating rank 1 as category dominance.
Overall domain strength does not explain the top ten
Some top-ten domains are broad citation surfaces. LinkedIn is cited in 1,096 monitored runs across the whole release. Reddit is cited in 2,021.
Others are not broad at all. Selenios has 9 total cited runs in the release, all of which appear in this HR buyer segment. CVViZ has 8 total cited runs, also all inside this segment. Umantis has 13. Yena sits just below the top ten with 9.
That makes the leaderboard useful in a different way. It is not only surfacing the domains everyone already knows. It is showing where a category-specific answer can elevate a narrow source above broad sites for one buyer question shape.
The inverse is also true. Broad visibility does not automatically carry the shape. People Managing People is cited in 149 runs overall and by all six engines, yet it lands just outside the top ten here with 8 of 101. arXiv is cited in 413 runs overall and ranks 14 in the same segment with 7 of 101. Overall citation power and buyer-shape standing are related facts, not synonyms.
What to do with a newly mature leaderboard
Use it for three decisions.
First, read the role pattern before the exact rank. HR buyer-choice answers are not starting from an editorial-publication list. They are assembling product, community and observed-source evidence.
Second, read distance, not just order. A six-answer spread from rank 1 to rank 10 is not enough evidence to declare a permanent category leader. It is enough evidence to decide which domains deserve source-level inspection.
Third, wait for the adjacent shapes. HR & Talent best tools, is it worth it, problem-first research, top lists and comparisons are still below the evidence floor. If those shapes publish with the same source-role split, the category claim gets stronger. If they do not, the first leaderboard was a buyer-choice fact, not an HR software law.
The practical rule is simple: a newly published AI citation leaderboard tells you where to look first. It does not tell you to stop measuring.
